Crock Pot Potato Breakfast

Okay, so I know these aren’t much to look at. In fact, they sorta look a little bit scary. Part of that could also be my lacking skills in photography….but buddy, do they taste DELICIOUS!

We gobbled them up…..except for Annie – who had decided that at that particular breakfast she didn’t like cheese or potatoes. Children make no sense. This is a really easy dish to make and I love waking up with breakfast already made.

I try to make dishes like this on mornings when I know we’re going to be super busy. Crock pots were sent directly from heaven.

Crock Pot Pizza Pasta

Annie has never been a big fan of pasta…..which is really sad because Barry and I are VERY big fans. However, the older she gets, the more she will eat. When she was young, I’d try to trick her and put some in her mouth when she wasn’t looking. After one puke, I stopped that. I’m glad she’s getting more into eating it. When we have company, I usually make pasta. It’s relatively cheap, crowd pleasing, and usually pretty easy. Combine that with a crock pot and you’re really saving some time and money! Crock Pot Cowboy Beans

I love beans. Sometimes, I think beans get a bad reputation. Sure, they make you musical and you can start your own band, but they also have the magical power to clean you out and fill you up. Not many foods are like that.

Crock Pot Whole Baked Chicken

I have a confession – I used to be afraid of whole chickens…..whole dead chickens. Well, I guess I might be afraid of a live chicken too if it was to run after me, trying to peck me to death.

I mean, in the packaging it looks so…..chickenish. It really looks like a chicken. I mean, there are legs and wings and body parts. When I open a pack of steak, it doesn’t look like a cow. With the chicken, I feel like I need to apologize while I’m fixing it. Sorry bird, but you are quite tasty. Not to mention I have this weirdness about meat on the bone that I’m trying to overcome.

So, I set out to teach myself to cook a whole chicken in the crock pot. I read tons of recipes, and this method suited me the best. And guess what? It’s EASY! I love it! The meat is so tender and it just falls off the bone. This is my method for cooking chicken forever! This particular chicken is from Earth Fare.

After watching Food, Inc I can’t buy any more Tyson chicken. This chicken was $10, but let me tell you…..it was GOOD. Totally worth the $10 and knowing it came from an okay source – and plus, I got 3+ meals out of this 3 pound bird. It did not die in vain…..it died somewhere, but not in vain. [Read more…]

Crock Pot Chicken Fried Steak

Chicken Fried Steak is to the South like “Eh” is to Canadians (okay, I’ve never been to Canada, but Barry has and I think the analogy works). You cannot separate them. And buddy, does this family love Chicken Fried Steak. Yummo! So, I wanted to make some in the Crock Pot. They turned out fabulous but the next time I’ll do them a tad bit differently. I made the mistakes in advance for you. You’re welcome. You’ll need minute steak (also known as cube steak), flour, salt, ground mustard, garlic powder, oil, cream of chicken soup, and water. Crock Pot Yogurt

I seriously had no idea that making yogurt could be so easy. I really didn’t know. I feel betrayed and left behind. But now I’ve come into the light! Annie eats lots of yogurt. Barry and I don’t hate it either. It’s pretty yummy stuff, especially over some granola. But, I keep doing this thing where I read ingredient labels at the grocery store…..and then I get mad. And then I start talking to myself. And yes, the stock boy thinks I’m losing my mind. There is tons of junk in the yogurt you buy in the store! It’s true……and it’s dirty. Really, how can you mess yogurt up? And when you see how easy this is, you’ll start making your own. And you’ll KNOW what’s in your yogurt. Crock Pot Mushroom Beef

I love cooked mushrooms, especially ones that are found on the lions mane recipes description. Cooked. I don’t really care for raw mushrooms. I would love to tell you why…..but I don’t know. So much of my life makes no sense at all. Kind of like how I am freaked out by meat on the bone. I saw this recipe by Betty Crocker and I knew I had to give it a shot. I am SO glad I did! Crock Pot Stuffed Apples

Ilove apples. That should be very apparent to you by now….hence all the apple recipes like Crock Pot Apple Butter, Baked Apples, and Apple Crowns. I kept seeing tons of apple recipes for the crock pot, but I didn’t really like any of them. So, I sorta came up with my own and it’s delicious! I hate to toot my own horn, but TOOT! TOOT! Crock Pot Jerk Chicken Hoagies

When I told Barry I was going to make these Jerked Chicken Hoagies, he kept going around saying, “What a jerk!” Yes, I married a comedian. Anyway, we love jerk seasoning in our house. What is it? It’s actually a Jamaican spice. Cooking “jerk style” means that you use a dry rub or a wet marinade for meats – the marinade being a very hot spice mixture. So, what’s in it? Allspice, peppers, cloves, cinnamon, scallions, nutmeg, thyme, garlic, salt, and pepper. It sounds like a weird combination, but it just works……trust me. Sorta like green beans and ketchup.
