20 Nutty Recipes

I love nuts…from my head down to my…errrrrrrrrrrr. Um, yeah. I love nuts. They are a tasty treat – a delicious snack – a good side – a nice topping – a good dinner. Wait, that’s not just me who eats nuts for a meal, right?

Around these parts, we keep nuts on hand all the time – because sometimes Mama gets a brain freeze and can’t think of something for snack. Out come the nuts! Not to mention that they make a delicious garnish. Am I the only one who sometimes just eats the garnish? I’m not a very formal person. [Read more…]

Crock Pot Trail Mix

Hold on tight to your knickers – I’m about to blow your mind. First, I brought you Crock Pot Candied Nuts. Then, I busted out the big guns and presented Crock Pot Cocoa Almonds. And now I have exceeded awesomeness with CROCK POT TRAIL MIX. I know. I can hardly believe it myself…if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Except in this case. This is true, my friends. A true culinary delight.

And if you haven’t figured it out yet, I enjoy saying “culinary delight.” It makes me feel official and stuff. So, expect to see it a lot with all my other favorite phrases: rock my face off, thebomb.com, booya, and don’t eat my chocolate. [Read more…]

4 Options for Flavored Coffee Grounds

I have this thing for coffee. I like it a lot. I drink almost a whole pot full myself – I do share a little bit with Barry because I’m nice like that.

I also have this thing for flavored coffees. I love a good hazelnut blend….or even a fantastic mocha. But, here is something you might not know about us – we are caffeine free (except for chocolate, because to be chocolate free would be like going without deodorant).

Crock Pot Apple Stuffed Acorn Squash

I decided that this year I was going to stock my basement with squash for the winter. So I did. And I’ve been working my way through using them already…and I’ve determined this: they won’t last long. Why? Because I stinkin’ love squash, that’s why. I’m barreling through these babies like a crazy woman. No squash left behind! No squash left unturned! No squash for you! [Read more…]

Spaghetti Squash Deluxe

Spaghetti Squash Deluxe

I got this cookbook when I was a junior in high school. I bought it from my Home-Ec teacher, Mrs. Cole. It’s full of yummy goodness – but most of it is also full of processed ingredients. However, I’ve become quite good at switching out those processed things for homemade things…and now that I’ve said that, my next dish will probably taste like dog food. [Read more…]

Blendtec Review

I’m a frugal living blogger. My job is to give an overall sense of being smart with your money. So, when I had the opportunity to do a review and giveaway (giveaway now expired) of the Blendtec Blender, I spent months trying to decide how to approach this topic with you…and here is what I decided:

Just because you are frugal with your money doesn’t mean you cannot have nice things. Being frugal and being cheap are two different things. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – being frugal is being smart with the resources God has given you…using them wisely. It doesn’t mean you make do with the cheapest version of stuff for your entire life. Sure, that might be something that has to happen for a season…that’s when you’re being smart. But to choose cheap things when you can SAVE FOR QUALITY isn’t usually the better option.

Homemade Caesar Salad Dressing

I’m not an eBook kind of girl. I like REAL cookbooks that I can put my hands on…that I can thumb through…that I can get tomato sauce all over in the kitchen…that Annie can color on when I’m not looking. But, I’m still cooking through my eCookbook stash here because I have collected quite a few from friends and fellow bloggers. And plus, I know some of you are REALLY into eBooks. [Read more…]

Kefir Resources

So, I’ve been using kefir now for about two years. My love for it has only grown – I’ve shared my love with friends and family members…I’m trying to get everyone on the kefir train! Stacy jumped off the kefir bridge, and I’m trying to get you to jump with me. Everybody’s doing it.

Okay, so not everyone is doing it. And you’ll likely get some strange looks if you start telling people you ferment milk. Kefir is essentially fermented, cultured milk. It’s FULL of probiotics and all sorts of good stuff. It’s very healthy and I try to keep it on my menu regularly since it contributes to a healthy immune system. [Read more…]
