Crock Pot Candied Nuts

No more burning your nuts in the oven! These Crockpot Candied Nuts are ready in an hour and are soooo yummy!

Once upon a time there was a mom. She was trying to make a tasty treat in the oven. Everything was going fine…but then the baby had a poop – and it got EVERYWHERE. While cleaning up the poop (which she’s not afraid of), someone also came to the door. That mom chatted with the company for a while. Company left – then the 3 year old had a meltdown. Mama dealt with that too – and all was going fine…and then, the smoke.

Wait…that mom was only gone for 15 minutes, right? Uhhh, no. Make that almost 45. Make that a burning flame of tasty treat setting off the fire alarm. Make that a burning tasty treat being thrown out on the carport before it sets the house on fire. Ummmm, oops?

That’s a hypothetical story. That a friend told me….about ummm, someone she knows. Yeah, someone she knows. I never burn stuff. *Step aside for flaming lightning bolt*

This recipe is great for those of you who tend to burn things in the oven. I never do stuff like that. *Cough* But if you do, you’ll enjoy this recipe. I hear it’s really easy to burn nuts in the oven if you’re not watching them closely…so, I want to save you from the story about my friend and her burning tray of flaming nuts.

If you never burn things in the oven, this recipe isn’t for you. Go look for one on Pinterest that involves the oven. And then pin a rose on your nose.

But really, this is so easy and it only takes an hour. Crock pot to the rescue again! Everyone is a fan of these nuts in this house. You can use whatever nuts you have on hand. We like a mixture of walnuts and pecans the best.

Coconut would be really yummy, stirred in at the end…but I tend to stand and eat my coconut raw right out of the container in the kitchen when no one is looking – so I don’t have to share.

Crock Pot Candied Nuts

  • 2 cups nuts, your choice (walnuts and pecans are an excellent choice)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces
  • 1/3 cup sugar of your choice (I like to use 1/8 teaspoon of NuNaturals stevia sometimes)
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  1. Combine nuts, sugar (or stevia) and cinnamon in a small crock pot (I use my 2 or 4 quart).
  2. Lay pats of butter on top.
  3. Cover and cook on HIGH for one hour.
  4. Stir.
  5. Dump mixture out onto wax paper to cool (or use cereal bags)

Yield: 2 cups nuts

How do you store them? What’s a good time frame for making these ahead of a get-together? Thanks!

A few days would be fine – I just store them in a glass jar or in a rubbermaid container.

Just asking for clarification. You can either use 1/3 cup sugar OR 1/8 teaspoon Stevia? I can’t imagine 1/8 teaspoon anything coating all the surfaces nooks crannies of 2 cups of nuts. Please help

Yes, that’s correct. The stevia is VERY concentrated – and that’s what I use every time with great results. The sweetness will depend on the brand used. We use NuNaturals.

My boys can’t eat sugar or stevia. Do you think that this would work with honey?

It might mess with the consistency – but you could try it! 🙂

Thanks for posting this recipe. My husband loves nuts! (And the 31st was his birthday, so now I will endeavor to make him some for snacking.) We are slowly getting going on THM, so the notations that apply to that are very much appreciated. You rock, Stacy!

bing bang boom. In the crockpot in under 3 minutes. My parents quit smoking a week ago and I’m going to drop some of this off as a snack to help them get through the icky cravings. Thanks Stacy!

I only have a 6 quart crock pot. Do you think I could just double the ingredients? What about cooking time?

Surface area is what matters in this particular recipe…so doubling it should be fine. 🙂
