101 Snacks For Your Husband On The Go

Y’all ask me for snack ideas all the time – and let me tell ya…I have them. Why? Because I’m a snacker at heart. I would almost rather snack all day than to sit down at a meal. I’m a grazer – just like a cow. Moo.

You also ask me what to feed your husband – perhaps he’s not really gone whole hog into your new “healthy” way of living and you don’t know what to send with him to work – and you don’t want him scarfing on Doritos from the snack machine all day…that hurts his belly AND his pocketbook. Wait – his wallet…guys carry wallets.

So, I put together a list of 101 snacks that will work for “on-the-go.” I made sure none of them require refrigeration so if your husband works on site, he won’t have to worry about keeping stuff cold.

And really, these can be used for kids too – or YOU. I’m cool with that – go ahead and make you a big ole batch of Lactation Cookies (nursing or not!) and hide them in the hall closet.

Head on over to Keeper of the Home for my entire list of 101 Snacks for Your Husband On the Go!

Homemade Cream-Of Soup Mix

Let’s be honest…there are times when I’m just lazy. I might run out of Homemade Cream of Chicken Soup and be too busy to make more…or too lazy. I try to always keep some in the freezer, but sometimes I run out. I know it’s quick and easy to whip up a batch, but I’ll be honest again. If I see a recipe that calls for it and I know I have to make some because I’m out – I pretty much nix that recipe. Can I get a witness?!

While I just love cooking, and don’t mind making the homemade cream of soup, sometimes I just can’t get around to it…and for those times, there is this lovely stand-in made with dried ingredients. Having this in the cabinet makes me feel like I can conquer any cream-of recipe! It also makes me feel like I need a casserole – casseroles are where it’s at. [Read more…]

Homemade Ginger Ale

Sometimes when you make a change to your diet, you have to do things to keep the people in your house happy. I love making special things for Barry….and I knew he was missing an occasional soda since I had quit buying it. After the water kefir fiasco I wasn’t sure Barry would drink anything else I concocted. And let me tell you – I can concoct some pretty weird things y’all.

Barry LOVES ginger ale. I cannot stand the ginger ale from the store because it reminds me of being sick – when I was little, mom would give it to us to settle upset stomachs. I kept seeing various recipes for ginger ale online, so I concocted one of my own from various recipes – to suit our tastes. And you know what? I actually like it. It doesn’t taste like your store versions of ginger ale. Barry says it tastes like the old fashioned Vernor’s ginger ale. Let’s make some ale y’all! Wow – that sounded like a bar maid. [Read more…]

Chocolate Peanut Butter

Holy cow. I am about to BLOW YOUR MIND. I made chocolate peanut butter. Yes, it’s true. Let me tell you something else…..so far, I haven’t shared it with anyone. No one. Not even Annie. If you make it, you won’t share it either. You’ll hide it in a deep dark corner of the fridge so that you alone can find it. I’m just warning you. I’m also warning you that if you have no self restraint, this is NOT the recipe to make. I’ll just be honest…….I dropped a little bit of this on the counter when I was scooping it into the jar. I tried to get it up with my finger……there was still some left. I licked the counter. Yes, it’s true. I, Stacy, licked the peanut butter off the counter. Is there a 12 step program for that? [Read more…]

Homemade Vanilla Extract

Okay, so just about every single food blogger under the sun has a post on homemade vanilla extract…..except me. And I’m about to remedy that. So, here it is! I know Dianne from Baking 4 Six has been waiting for this (ha! ha!) However, I just want to let you know that this whole endeavor about drove me CRAZY! Seriously. There are about 40 hundred thousand opinions on how to do it. So, I did it one way…..and then the next day, I did it over. About a week after that, I did something else different. And about 40 hundred thousand times, I changed it again. So, if you want to go crazy and have your own vanilla extract, this is the place for you! And if you do go crazy, at least there is liquor right there for the taking. [Read more…]

Homemade Coffee Creamer

I’ve had a few of you ask me about making a homemade coffee creamer. I was interested in that myself…..especially after I read the ingredients list on one of those bottles. Good night. Do you know what’s in there? No, wait. I’m not going to tell you. I tried a few recipes here and there, and none of them really tasted that great. Then I came across several variations at Deliciously Organic and I decided to give them a try – they worked! So, I’m going to share them with you now and you can hug me later. [Read more…]

Homemade Grape Juice

I’m so excited that my August guest post is from one of my closest friends, Brandy. Brandy and I go back to high school……and yes, she’s still sticking around. I think she likes my sense of humor. She’s going to give you a great tutorial on how to make grape juice – because grapes are starting to be ready! Thanks Brandy. 🙂

Hi!  I’m Brandy and I live on a little lot in town with a handsome man who tends my garden.  We’ve grown varying amounts of our own food over the years and while we have a new baby, this year is proving to be no exception.  Grapes are in season right now, so we’ve made grape juice to brighten our coming Winter days.  Here’s how we did it:Find a place where you can get free grapes, be it your own vines or that of a friend.  Free is wonderful.  Using a pair of scissors, clip the grape bunches from the vines.  Try to choose the ones with the best-looking grapes to save yourself some work later on.  Watch out for drunk bees.  Gather as many grapes as you can stand. Pantry Salsa

It’s no big surprise to anyone that I’m in love with Trigger’s Salsa. Seriously, it’s the best salsa I’ve ever put in my mouth……but here’s the kicker – I don’t like to share. Take your hands off my salsa or I might bite you. So, sometimes I need salsa for a recipe or to serve to someone other than myself. I sure ain’t gonna give them my Trigger’s. They can get their own at Walgreens or Food City. When that’s the case, I make this – Pantry Salsa. It’s a Taste of Home recipe and I’ve been making it for years. It’s Barry’s favorite salsa…..tastes just like what they serve at restaurants – and it’s CHEAP! So, let’s make some and make our families happy…..while we hide our Trigger’s behind the pickled pigs feet so no one can find it. [Read more…]
