Crock Pot 5-Spice Chicken

In my opinion, This Crock Pot 5-Spice Chicken is the best way to use the unique Chinese 5-Spice Powder.

Fix and Forget Friday comes to you today from my friend, Anne.

A few months back, I was at Ollie’s (a discount store kind of like Marshall’s or Ross but without the clothes and even messier) and stumbled across a little bottle of Spice Islands’ Chinese 5-Spice Powder. I don’t remember how much it was – maybe $1.99? – but I remember it was cheap. And I like cheap spices. So I bought it.

Problem was, I had absolutely no idea what to do with it! I had never before in my life made or even eaten anything (that I recall, anyway; I suppose there’s always the chance I ate it unaware) made with Chinese 5-spice powder. It was one of those random spice mixes that seemed non-essential to my life. [Read more…]

Fix and Forget Friday – Crock Pot Texas Calico Chili

Sometimes when I start out with a recipe, I have no idea where I’m going. I have a basic idea in mind….but usually my basic idea falls to the wayside. I was going with a traditional chili when I started, but then I decided to switch it up a bit and add some more color – then Calico Chili was born…..and I added the name Texas on it because I used stew beef instead of ground beef. Stew beef is bigger. Everything is bigger in Texas. Can you see my reasoning here? [Read more…]

Crock Pot Easy Chicken on a Bed of Root Vegetables

Today we have a guest post from LeighAnn over at Intentional by Grace sharing her delicious recipes for Crock Pot Easy Chicken on a Bed of Root Vegetables. Promise it’s as yummy as it sounds!

This Crockpot Easy Chicken on a Bed of Root Vegetables is so incredibly simple, yet it’s full of all the goodness you would expect from a meal that’s been slaved over all day.

When asked what your favorite thing is about the cooler weather, everyone in my neck of the woods starts talking about football and pretty leaves, I generally pipe off with, “I love crock pots!” I get some pretty funny looks and the occasional polite giggle. But I don’t mind. While they slave away in the kitchen, I’ll leave my maid – Miss crock pot – to do all my work while I watch the snow fall outside.

This is one of my favorite recipes because it’s so incredibly simple, and yet, it’s full of all the goodness you would expect from a meal that’s been slaved over all day. Not to mention, it’s man friendly – meat and potatoes. The husband loves that. [Read more…]

Crock Pot Curried Sweet Potato & Carrot Soup

I’m just going to tell you, the name of this soup is really weird….and kinda gross. If I had seen it in a cookbook, I would have made a nasty face and passed it by as quickly as possible. Curried? Sweet Potato and Carrot curry? EWWW! My great friend, Erinn sent me this recipe with the recommendation that it was awesome. I trust Erinn. I trust her enough to make her nasty sounding Curry Soup – that’s love. And guess what? I loved it! It has an amazing blend of flavors and they all pair together wonderfully! [Read more…]

Crock Pot Chicken Cacciatore

Crock Pot Chicken Cacciatore. Just throw everything in the crockpot for an easy dinner!

I’m a lover of all foods Italian….unless they include fish. Or cabbage. Or bleu cheese. So, let’s just say I love all Italian foods except Italian Fish Bleu Cheese Cabbage Casserole. Moving on! Chicken Cacciatore is a delicious dish. Putting it in the crock pot can only make it better….and easier. It’s a win-win. That’s Amore! [Read more…]

Crock Pot Taco Meat

I wanted a taco salad. Actually, I want taco salads on a regular basis. However, it was going to be a busy afternoon and I knew I wouldn’t have time to fix tacos later in the day. I had time right after lunch, so I threw this together. And let me tell you something – it is GOOD. Of course, I have a heart for tacos. Do you have a heart for tacos? Of course you do honey. Make this. [Read more…]

Crock Pot Spicy Hamburger Goulash

I made this Spicy Hamburger Goulash one night for my parents because they were watching Annie while I had a workshop close to their house…..they said it was too spicy. Annie wouldn’t eat it. She said it was “hot.” Barry and I thought it was just right…..and I didn’t even need a hanky. If you don’t want it spicy, you can just cut back on the amount of chili powder. This is a very versatile recipe because you can vary the spices and beans as you like. You could even add corn if you want to. My parents are pansies when it comes to hot food – but I love them anyway. [Read more…]

Lumberjack Macaroni

I know there are some of you out there hanging on for dear life to your Hamburger Helper. Admit it. Even though it’s got TONS of additives and not-so-good stuff for you in it, you keep it. Like a safety net or a blankey. But guess what? You can make your OWN Hamburger Helper and it will taste even better. Bye bye additives and artificial coloring! Hello Lumberjack Macaroni! This post is for you, Tia Thomas!Guest posting for me today is my very close and dear friend, Brandy. You’ll probably get used to seeing her around here because I like her point of view. Thanks Brandy! [Read more…]

Crock Pot Spicy Chicken Soup

I’m just going to go ahead and tell you. I love soup. I’m so excited when it’s finally soup season! I would eat it all year long, but Barry prefers it when it’s cold outside. I caved and made this recently….and it turned out to be 90 degrees that day. By the time we were done with dinner we were sweating like pigs and had to go get the box fan. Oops? But it was worth it! Chock full of veggies and beans, it will fill your tummy up quickly and keep you nice and warm…..or nice and sweaty. [Read more…]
