I think this has turned out to be a great idea! Unlike some of my other ideas, like Shrimp Pot Pie or white comforters for the kids. I’ve had so much fun putting this Christmas gifts list together! Already my wheels are turning for another idea next year. Let me know if you have any ideas for that…unless it involves vast amounts of time, making something straight on the wall, or scary kinds of glue. [Read more…]
100 Days of Christmas Gifts $25 or Less (Day 71-77)
It’s December!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kinda snuck up on you, didn’t it? Did you know that “snuck” wasn’t a word? Lame. Most of the time I don’t figure out a word I say isn’t a real word until I try to type it out – maybe I should stick to video. There is no such thing as spell check for video – unless you count comments from people who like to correct your twang.
Really, you still have plenty of time. Especially if you have Amazon Prime – which is one of my favorite things about Amazon. Two day shipping?! Yes, please. That means you can procrastinate a loooooooooooooooooooooong time. Not that I condone procrastination – I gave that up in college. Ahem.
So, here are seven more days for you. Maybe if nothing has tickled your fancy yet, today will fix you right up. 🙂 [Read more…]
100 Days of Christmas Gifts $25 or Less (Day 64-70)
Christmas is coming!!! This is the last week of November – so don’t let it sneak up on you. Because guess what? Christmas is December 25th this year. Who knew?!
Even though our family chooses not to break out the holiday decor and music before Thanksgiving, we are always shopping all year long to get our gift purchased early and at a good price. That leaves time for me to bake and craft with the kids during the holidays without losing my mind. Except I’ve already lost my mind, so I guess that didn’t work out so well.
Here are the other installments of the gift series, for your convenience. Because I’m awesome like that. [Read more…]

Our Debt Free House: AFTER
Ta da!!!! As promised, here is the after video of our debt free house. So yeah – I realize I promised this video over a year ago when we posted the BEFORE video, but life happened. And honestly, we didn’t know what we were getting in to with a home renovation. “We’ll be done in a year…” I bet some of you probably openly snickered when I said that.
The big changes we made:
- New heat pump
- Converted car port into garage. We needed custom welding services for this project as there were a lot of metal materials involved.
- We got an all new plumbing system(almost) with the help of a professional plumber. You may hire contractors such as plumbers in Greenville, SC if you also need assistance with your plumbing tasks.
- All new wiring (almost).
- Entire house painted by painting contractors near me.
- All new appliances.
- Added back porch and covered it.
- Landscaping by American Grounds Service as well as a tree diagnosis in our backyard.
- Rich’s Tree Service will help to remove any tree efficiently and safely, no matter the size and scope of the project, read more about it here!
- New flooring from Brisbane cork flooring suppliers and tub re-tile & seal in bathroom.
We are very tickled with how this house has turned out – we love living here and have learned SO MUCH – including exactly what a basement smells like when it’s been showered with poop from the septic line.
I hope you enjoy the video. Holler at me if you have questions. 🙂
What to Do When You and Your Spouse Don’t Agree About Money
Hello everyone! This is Sonja Sarr again, from Practical Stewardship thankful to be guest posting here on Stacy’s blog.
A few years ago it was apparent that it was time for the Sarrs to get a new-to-us family car. We bought our little white 1994 Toyota Tercel for $5000 cash in 1999 when we got married. We paid cash $4950 for our used Volkswagon Passat Wagon in 2006. By the time 2009 rolled around we had our third child. Before having our little guy, I made sure three car seats would fit in the back seat. We made it work, but it was anything but ideal.
By the time 2010 rolled around the car was falling apart little piece by little piece. We weren’t really excited about all of the little plastic parts disintegrating: the head rest, the glove box (several times-we ended up holding it in place with part of a plastic coat hanger), the locks, side mirrors, and just about anything else on the car’s interior that was made of plastic. To make it even more interesting, Jonathan (also affectionately known as JSarr) was virtually certain the engine was built around the alternator. Very strange. It was really strange, actually. It was time to get a new-to-us car.
We had already paid off JSarr’s $38,000 college debt, [Read more…]
25 Things I Buy At the Dollar Store
I used to be embarrassed to shop at the dollar store. I thought it was for old folks and people who just hadn’t gotten the great news about Target yet.
I’ve changed my tune, however, and today I’m sharing 25 items I love to swipe up at the Dollar Store. Before I get started, a few disclaimers:
- Don’t go hog-wild and buy everything at the Dollar Store, just because it’s “a dollar.” I learned this lesson during my coupon days, too. Ooo, bubble gum scented air fresheners are only $.34 cents a can! I’ll take them all! Even though “$1.00” sounds good, it’s still pricey for some items, so just use your head, and don’t buy things you don’t need or use.
- Not all Dollar Stores are created equal. In my region, I like the Family Dollar and the Dollar Tree. But there are some dollar stores that oughta be ashamed of themselves. Cluttered, messy shelves, half-made, chincy items…So judge your own store for yourself.
- I’m not saying that these buys are the lowest deal you’ll ever, ever find in your whole life. If you are a super-shopper, a clearance-aisle master, an expert Amazoner like Stacy, you may have better deals for some of these things. I’ve never been a professional shopper who has my pulse on when nail clippers are on clearance for the lowest price of the season. I have two kids, I’m pregnant, I run a blog, I manage my son’s allergies, and I homeschool.
Shopping just isn’t my side job. [Read more…]
