Mixer or Bread Machine: Which Should I Buy?

mixer vs bread machine

I get asked all the time: Which should I buy, a mixer or a bread machine? The answer might surprise you. I say both.

I know I always said a bread machine is one of the things I would never, EVER buy. Friends (and strangers) would always tell me, “You should get a bread machine!” And I’d reply back, “I’m the bread machine! I do the kneading over here!” I had a great Bosch mixer and a bread machine seemed completely unnecessary. What changed? [Read more…]

The Solution to Your Breakfast Woes

breakfast ideas and solutions

I previously shared with you my 10 easy go-to breakfast recipes and today I want to share another helpful breakfast idea. For a while now, our family has been using a method that has really revolutionized life for us. It just might be the solution to your breakfast woes!

You all know I love to cook. More than anything, I love to cook breakfast. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I love me some breakfast, girl!

Butter, syrup, butter, muffins, butter, coffee, butter, butter in coffee. My first thought in the morning is – I’m so glad it’s almost breakfast time!

I’m definitely not one of those people who’s like, “Rats, I just forgot to eat breakfast today!”

Or you guys that wake up and say, “No thanks, I don’t eat breakfast.” I don’t understand you. I mean, we can be friends, but I don’t understand you.

My kids are the same way – they want to know all about what they’re gonna have for breakfast the next day as they climb into bed.

For those of you who are breakfast people (and those of you who wish you were) – I’ve got the solution to your breakfast woes.

Why I love Shopping at Sam’s Club and What I Buy

what to buy at sam's club

Some people get a thrill riding roller coasters. But I’m not really into roller coasters. I get my thrills by grocery shopping, y’all. I go to the grocery store for a good time.

Just for fun, I’m going to tell you all about why I love shopping at Sam’s Club and what I buy there.

First let me mention that if we had an Aldi closer to where we live, I probably wouldn’t be shopping at Sam’s Club as much. But the closest Aldi is an hour away and it just doesn’t make sense for me to drive that far to shop. We also don’t have Trader Joe’s or any fancy stores like you find in the big city – because southwest Virginia sure ain’t the big city. There’s no BJs, Costco or anything like that in our part of the world.

But praise God there is a Sam’s Club! Even with the membership fee, there are so many things I buy there that I simply cannot get cheaper anywhere else. It makes the Sam’s club basic membership fee worth it for us. #notsponsored

Turkey, Bacon, and Guacamole Wraps

wraps

I love wraps. I used to really love Subway’s wraps because they used this really thin, pliable, tasty tortilla that I just love. They were so chewy and delicious. This is a good stand-by when you’re in a rush and need a quick dinner. Wraps are so fun! You can put just about anything in them, just like omelets. Heck, you could even throw your leftover omelet in there. I always try to keep tortillas in the house. Sometimes I make them, and sometimes I buy them. It’s really easy to make your own. But for the sake of time, I used these tortillas from Kroger to make up some simple and delicious turkey wrap with bacon and guacamole!

10 Easy Meals When You’re in a Slump

10 easy meals

Every year after Christmas, I get in a meal planning rut. I don’t feel like cooking – why can’t we all just eat cheese and crackers every day? And why do these people keep coming to me wanting more food?

When I had this rut the first time, it bothered me. Because I actually enjoy cooking. The second year, it felt familiar. Now, well over a decade into this whole home management routine, I know to expect it…except, it keeps lasting longer. And I wonder – will this eventually be a year-long thing? Ha ha! [Read more…]

Meal Planning: I know you.

Oh wait – that’s me. If it’s not easy, I WON’T DO IT.

Meal Planning Should be Easy, Quick and Do-Able.

Did you know that meal planning doesn’t have to be a big, drawn out deal with color coding, stickers, signs on the wall, or elaborate grocery lists? But hey…if that’s your jam man, cool. I love jam.

I recently did a talk about how to do meal planning without going loco. It really can be easy and made to fit your needs.

So, for a long time I was using a meal planning printable from Life as Mom. It’s GREAT!!!! It’s the original idea behind this printable I’m giving you. But my friend Karen made one for me because… [Read more…]

Five Ways to Figure Out What’s For Dinner

figure out dinner

Guest post by Katie of Finding Home.

Getting dinner on the table can be a chore. I like cooking and baking sometimes, but for some reason, all the people in my house want to eat more often than once or twice a week. So I am always on the lookout for fresh recipes that are quick and easy, and that don’t have too many ingredients. And if at least half of my people like the same thing at the same time? That’s a winner.

So where do I find recipes that fit all of these criteria? Here are a few of my favorite places.
