Why You Should Read {The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up}

Whenever I find something in my life that excites me, I’m always soooooooo eager to share it with you guys! And don’t worry – Stacy hasn’t fallen down another rabbit hole, lost her mind, or gone cray-cray. I can actually hear that audible sigh of relief from you. Try to control yourself. :-p

In this video, I talk about why I think you should read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Seriously guys, this book has changed our lives. Not just MY life…but Barry’s life (he had to read the book after he saw how much I loved it!) and the kids’ lives too!

Before reading this book, I would have told you that we were minimalists. Dude. I was totally lying to myself. Reading this book has completely changed how I feel about cleaning and clutter. It’s like scales taken off my eyes so I could actually SEE what was in my life.

As I was reading it, I would tell friends about topics in the book. They would scoff, thinking the idea was ludicrous – I’m sure they were rolling their eyes behind their phones. Then they would read the book after seeing my excitement and say “I totally get it now! Before I read the book, what you said didn’t make sense. But YES! This is the exact way to clean your life and home!” So until you read the book, you can’t really understand all the concepts.

You might read reviews or watch videos like mine – but the book is a gold mine that you’ll want to reference again and again.

I’ve read so many books and posts on cleaning and decluttering. NONE of them stuck with me. NONE of them really hit home on the entire issue…until this book.

Now, like I said in the video, it’s a very popular book. I waited for my copy from the library for over a month and I should have just purchased it. Because it’s only $10 and worth every penny. It’s a very popular book right now, so chances are that you will have a long library wait. Just buy it. This is coming from the lady who washes and reuses swim diapers, okay?

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve been watching us go through this whole process. I’ve documented it with photos using the hashtag #clutterclearout. And some of you are using that hashtag and I love it! We’re declutting lives together! If you’re not following along, you can see all past photos on Instagram using the above hashtag.

stacymakescents –> on Instagram

I plan on doing several posts for this topic – including how we’re doing it, how we’ve sold so much stuff, and what we plan on doing for the future. And I’ll also be throwing out some great ideas for clutter-free gifts.

Are you as excited as me?! Come on! Get happy! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Let’s clear out the clutter and take our lives back! And make room for what’s important in life! So, without further ado, here’s my The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up review.

Are you with me?!

OK, I am really curious about this book. But isn’t its premise extremely simple: keep what you love and need, and get rid of the rest? My husband and I live in a less-than-1000-square-foot apartment and a couple weeks ago we cleaned out nearly 15 bags of trash and things to donate, just powered by our own motivation. And he just mentioned to me the other night that it’s time for another round– we have a lot of school papers and books to get rid of. What is it about this book that makes it so special and popular? I don’t want to spend any money on it unless I know it will be helpful (call me cheap… or frugal 😉 ). Thanks for any feedback! 🙂

I tried to just read blog posts about it…but when I read the book, I understood why people said to actually read it. It’s just full of so many gems and something about READING it just puts it into perspective. 🙂

I started a blog as well on my site:www.kehlercounselingservices.com – it IS LIFE CHANGING!! and for anyone else reading this BUY the book!! You will want to re read it as you go through process. I also recommend journaling the process (or blogging) because it causes reflection, insight and major perception changes!

I’m #288 in the holds list at my library. I also requested the audio version which should come sooner. I have so many other books that I am trying to get through that I decided to go against recommendation and reserve it. My friend also highly recommends the book. Thanks for sharing and encouraging!

I would say to put off anything else on your list – because after this you might not want to read them anyway. LOL

I just finished this book and am about to jump into decluttering! REALLY looking forward to how you’re dealing with kids toys, since she didn’t address it in the book. I may just have to finally join Instagram to follow you on this journey!

Stacy, When I clicked “Play” on your video at the end of the post there was no sound. Did this happen to anyone else? Just wondering. I did check my speaker volume.

Sometimes the actual You Tube window can get muted and it has nothing to do with computer volume. It happens to me occasionally. Make sure that on the bottom beside the play button that the speaker button doesn’t have a red X on it. 🙂

Thanks for putting together this video! I’m still way too deep on the holds list at the library, so I will be purchasing this book-like today 🙂 Over the past few years our family has been slowly moving to a more purposeful, minimal life. We’ve just listed our large, keeping up with the Jones’ complete with white picket fence house for sale and are making a radical move into a house half the size! You’ve been a big inspiration in regards to financial freedom as well as all of your recent Instagram posts on decluttering, so from the bottom of my heart thank you! We are moving in about a month and a half, so I have been decluttering for the last few months, but not deep enough. I’m hoping to do this book as I pack, so we have less to move 😉 Take care!

I have had at least THREE friends say the exact same thing to me. Verbatim. Then they read the book and you know what they said? “She was right – I was able to declutter a lot of books that don’t bring me joy!” So…just try it. 😉
