Man, it’s that time of year where it’s getting to be stinking hot…..too hot to cook. When it’s hot, I just want to take a bath – in a vat of ice cream. In the summertime, we eat a lot of salads and sandwiches. We also fire up the grill and keep the heat outside. There are tons of great dishes that take little-to-no cooking. We usually go through all of them by the time it starts to cool down. It’s harder this year since I’m making all our bread now. However, I’ve switched to a method that I heard from Tammy at Tammy’s Recipes. She says to bake late in the day, after supper. Yes, it’s already hot in the house but by that time it’s usually starting to cool down outside – so when it gets super hot in your house you can open the windows and the house will cool off as it cools off outside. Genius! It’s working great for us. Hope that tip works for you too. |
So, I thought it would be really nice to have a resource with a big list of recipes that are GREAT for the summertime. You’d have a page you could visit for ideas of what to make for dinner when it’s too hot to turn on the oven. Do you have a tried and true recipe that you make when it’s hot? I would love to add it to the list! It can be a main dish, side dish, or even a dessert. It’s a good idea to make sure they’re a “whole foods” type of recipe and not something full of processed items. During the summer, that’s not hard since gardens are overflowing! They should be recipes that don’t require the oven, and limit the amount of time spent on the stovetop. Crock pot recipes and grilled recipes are great ideas! |
* It doesn’t have to be an original recipe. It can just be a recipe that you’ve tried and loved or made for years and years. It’s okay if it’s a Betty Crocker recipe. I’m not asking for a lot of original creativity here – I’m just asking for you to help me stop sweating. You can submit your recipes to me using the CONTACT form. But, here’s the catch. I need the recipes to be a link. I don’t have the space to type out tons of recipes (because you’re going to send me tons….right?) If it’s a Betty Crocker recipe, just send the link from the Betty Crocker website. If it’s a Taste of Home recipe, just send me that link. Please make sure it’s something that you’ve tried before…..don’t just send it because you think it looks or sounds good. Because that Shrimp Pot Pie recipe looked really pretty in the picture…….not so pretty in the mouth. BLECH!
I’ll do a separate post in about a week with all the recipe submissions. If you have a website, I’ll link to that if you like. I aim to please. And I was really serious about the vat of ice cream. |
And here is the link to the Too Hot To Cook Recipe Listing. |

Did you ever post the recipe listings? I know this is an old post but it would be great if maybe you could edit this post and add the link to the other one. I was looking for hot weather recipes this summer and would have loved this. I recently found your blog and I am LOVING it.

Excited about this post (now that the rules have been spelled out for me,lol) –
Looking forward to reading your reader’s recipes. Also, I took this as a bit of a personal challenge & am happy to report that this “baking” girl has turned off her oven & put away the sugar for a week *gasp. I fired up the grill and completed recipe #1 last night — my family LOVED it. Got a few more ideas.
