What is a Titus 2 Mentor and How Do I Find One?

Some of you may know right away what I mean when I say I’m going to talk about how to find a Titus 2 Mentor. Others may be asking, what is a Titus 2 Mentor? Some may even be saying Titus what now?

The idea of a Titus 2 mentor comes from the Bible in, wait for it, Titus, chapter 2.

I have mentioned this lots of times when I share helpful homemaking and parenting tips that are not mine. The majority of what I share with y’all, I have learned from people who are older and wiser. I have learned from people who have been there, done that.

When Barry and I got married, we asked his second cousins (related to me by marriage) to mentor us. We shared the same faith, we loved what we saw in  their obedient, happy, grown children. And we loved how they homeschooled and how they ran their house in general. We wanted someone in our lives to help us grow and mature in our marriage and eventually as parents.

I know not everyone feels this way, but I personally would encourage you to choose someone other than your parents. The reason that I would say to go to someone else and not your parent(s), is because a lot of parents say things to make us feel better. They want to uplift us and love on us rather than tell us the hard stuff that we might not want to hear.

Titus 2:3 -5 says:

“Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.”

What is a Titus 2 mentor? An older woman (she doesn’t have to be OLD) who teaches a younger woman to:

  • Love her husband
  • Love her children
  • Be self-controlled
  • Be pure
  • Work at home
  • Be kind
  • Be submissive to her own husband

But Y’all…. People my age aren’t being mentored and taught these things!

It’s sad, but it’s true. But we can fix it! When you are younger and you first get married… you are dumb (let’s just be honest here). Shocking, I know! You think you know stuff, but you don’t! You need someone who has been through it all and is on the other side that can talk you through it. There are sometimes you think you’re going crazy. You need someone who can speak truth and life into you.

I know a lot of you right now are thinking, “gosh, I’d like to have that! How and where do I get that?” Pray that God will bring someone like that into your life; someone you respect and look up to that is at least 1-2 steps ahead of you on the parenting and homemaking journey. Maybe there is someone in your church or life who has been there and is on the other side. Maybe you have a family friend you’ve seen love her husband and raise obedient kids. I know it’s scary at first, but you need to just put on your big girl panties and get up the courage to ask that person to be your mentor.

All you have to do is ask!

It’s hard for someone else to come to you and say, “Girl… you look rough! It seems like you’re not handling stuff the way you should.” How would you feel if someone said, “Man, I couldn’t help but notice how bad you were struggling. You look miserable! Do you need help?” No, most of us get too easily offended for that. That means YOU need to do the asking! I know from the experience of myself and my friends, very rarely will you be told no!

You can also have mentors that you don’t directly know or that don’t know you!

This is a golden age with e-courses, online classes, blogs, podcasts – not to mention books! There are so many things you can engage in. Yes, I’ll admit it’s harder than having someone walk physically right beside you, but it’s better than nothing!

If you’re struggling with homeschooling and cannot find anyone to help you… go online! Google can help you find a plethora of homeschooling courses. Just scroll until you find someone with the credentials and qualifications that fit your beliefs. Just be sure to do your research so you know the person is qualified to teach. If they are, then run with it!

I hope when I get older that someone looks at me and asks me for help! I hope that the Lord will use me in that way. A Titus 2 mentor can help and guide you through the challenges and struggles in life! Can you see why you need one in your life? It’s amazing and life-changing.

Do you have a Titus 2 mentor in your life?

I’m so excited to be part of your group. I wish that I would have found someone like you when my children were younger. But, God loves us right where we are & for such a time as this. Now I’m grandma to 2 awesome boys. I’m a stay at home person that has, from a disability, retired. Looking forward to following along
