The Blackhead Experiment

Okay, so you know how you hear something on television and you think “I don’t know if I believe that.” And then you try it yourself at home to see if it really does work? That’s not just me…….right? I will try just about anything – except raw fish. I’m not even going to go there. I was watching The Doctors with my mom one day and heard this tip about getting rid of blackheads by using Elmer’s School Glue. Well. Huh. Who knew?Immediately I knew I’d go home and try it. I mean, cause I don’t have anything else better to do with my day than to smear glue all over my nose and let it dry……forget putting up harvest or cleaning the toilet. I have glue to play with. I’m always up for cheap solutions because those Biore pore strips are EXPENSIVE. I found some directions online and went with it…..while Annie was asleep of course. Because try explaining to a two year old why you’re putting glue on your face – and then expect them not to put it all over every surface of the house. Yeah. Not gonna happen.

Okay, first get your glue out. It’s really cheap this time of year. Wash and dry your face. I’m not wearing any makeup……I hope I don’t scar you for life. I’m doing this experiment for you, ya know. Put an even smear all over your nose. Make sure you extend a bit out from the nose so that you have something to grab when it’s dry.

Glue on your nose feels funny, FYI. It tickles a little…..and it smells like…..school. I had a flashback to gluing things on construction paper when I was in school…..or maybe that was last week.

Instructions say not to wrinkle your nose up any. Yeah. That’s almost an impossibility. I’ve got glue on my nose and I’m not supposed to wrinkle it up?! It takes about 20 minutes to dry (depending on thickness) and I got a couple funny emails and a nose itch during this process. There was some wrinkling going on. Not to mention every time I looked in the mirror I snickered. Twenty minutes is a long time.

After the glue is totally dry, mess with the edges until you get a bit of it to come up. Then peel off the whole piece of glue – try to do it in one big piece……this is the fun part. Admit it. Peeling glue off your nose? Fun times. I think I’m going to do this regularly for the entertainment value.

See all the goop that came off? Gross. Verdict? It really works….just as good as the store bought strips at a fraction of the price. Did it get all my blackheads? Nope. I think that might take a jackhammer. Those puppies have been in there for years. I cover them up with makeup…..it does the trick. But this is fun. I’m totally doing it again.

I don’t know if I would. I’m not sure I want “extra tacky” peeling off my skin. Ha ha! 🙂

A box of plain gelatin is cheap, comes with 4 packets I think (can’t remember!) and each application only takes 1/3 to 1/2 a packet and you can do more than just your nose! 🙂

Have you ever tried Gelatin pore strips? I recently found pinterest (you can lose so much time there!) and found a link to this site… http://petitelefant.com/how-to-pore-strips/ I too struggle with blackheads and have yet to find a way to get rid of them but my skin felt clean, smooth and tightened after this 🙂

I’ve never tried them. I struggle with spending money on that type of thing. 🙂
