Have you seen those casserole carriers from Pyrex that have the heating pad in there to keep your food hot? I got one of those when I got married. I’m not ashamed to tell you that the very first time I tried to warm it in the microwave, I melted it. Sometimes it pays to read the directions. When I’m at a potluck, I always feel let down when the deliciousness on my plate turns out to be cold. What a total let down. So, that’s why I like to tote my warm potluck dishes in something that will insure they stay hot. [Read more…] |

Kitchen Tip Tuesday – 10/18/11
I hate having ice cubes in my drinks. Mostly because it waters stuff down.If you can’t drink it fast enough, it eventually tastes super yucky. I don’t even like having ice cubes in my water……even though it’s impossible to water down water. Let’s just clear the air – me and ice cubes don’t get along. When I take a drink, they move around and I end up getting a bath….in public. Totally embarrassing. But, sometimes I have a bit of coffee or tea left and I don’t want to throw it out. What’s a girl to do? [Read more…] |
Kitchen Tip Tuesday
Have you ever been to a church potluck and seen a plate of brownies that look like this? It looks like Annie got into this dish and tried to “help.” Here is a statement of fact – even if brownies look bad, they still taste AWESOME! I could eat them directly out of the dish with a spoon, so I really don’t care what they look like. However, when you want to take a pretty plate of brownies to a potluck, you want them to look nice. You don’t want them to look like you just dug them out of the garden. The problem with the brownies on the left is that they’ve been cut with a metal knife. [Read more…] |
Kitchen Tips: Reheating Cinnamon Rolls (and Casseroles)
Deep thoughts with Stacy… does anyone else ever wonder why it isn’t cinnamon roles and casserolls instead of cinnamon rolls and casseroles? File that under “pointless things Stacy ponders”. LOL. But seriously, today I want to talk about reheating food – specifically about reheating cinnamon rolls and casseroles.
[Read more…]How I Organize My Days…and You Can Too
I realize it’s been a while since I talked about this, and if you have been a follower for a while, you may recall that I have talked before about how I organize my days. I do it in a very specific way and turns out, the concept is not new AT ALL. I actually first heard about it when I when I was younger – like a lot younger. We’re talking when I was a little girl.
Any of y’all remember Little House in the Big Woods?
Stacy’s Top Ten Kitchen Gadgets
For those of you who don’t follow along with my videos on Facebook, this post was actually a part of a recent Facebook Live series about my top 10 lists. My Top 10 Favorite Online Stores was a big hit – as was my Top 10 Kitchen Gadgets – so I wanted to share this with y’all too! One thing you should know about me…
Hi. My name is Stacy, and I am a kitchen gadget and appliance hoarder.
Even when I Konmari-ed my house and got rid of ALL the things, I kept most of my kitchen gadgets because you know what…I love kitchen appliances. I’m not ashamed; I’m not embarrassed. And you know what? I plan to keep on adding.
But I do not keep my kitchen gadget and appliance collection on my counter.
That drives me crazy! Counter clutter makes me nervous. I keep them all down in the basement on a special shelf that Barry built me. Before I get going on the key top ten kitchen gadgets list, I am going to shock you by mentioning what DIDN’T make the list this time…my crock pot! You know I use my slow cooker ALL.THE.TIME. However, this list is a little less obvious than that. 😉
In no particular order, here’s my top ten kitchen gadgets and appliances:
How To Schedule A Baking Day
Because we eat almost all “homemade” food, I often take an entire day to dedicate to cooking things from scratch. I actually bake twice a week – Wednesday and Saturday. But Wednesday is my true Kitchen Day or “Baking Day.” When first trying to tackle a baking day, it can seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be!
What is a baking day?
Get Ahead on Saturday
Saturday is a day that seems to have a mind of its own. It’s kinda a day thrown in there that no one knows how it’s going to go. What?! Daddy is home?! Breakfast is later?! No school!!!!
The routine of Saturday is a little bit different for us than on other days. It’s a day I’ve chosen to use to get ahead for the upcoming week and also to make up for anything I might have missed during the previous week.
A lot of homemakers choose to make Saturday their Cleaning Day because everyone is home and able to help. Just use discernment for your family to know which day you need to schedule what on. [Read more…]
Bake on Wednesday
Now THIS is an idea you can get behind, right?! You might remember that Ma Ingalls baked on Saturday, not Wednesday. Wednesday just happens to be the day that works best for us – you’ll have to decide what day works the best for you. Basically, this is a Kitchen Day more than a Baking Day.
Why did she bake on Saturday? Well, I think there are probably two reasons for that:
- Baking makes the house hot – best to get it all done in one day for the whole week.
- Most women did their Sunday preparations the day before so they could have a day of rest on Sunday.
