Have you seen those casserole carriers from Pyrex that have the heating pad in there to keep your food hot? I got one of those when I got married. I’m not ashamed to tell you that the very first time I tried to warm it in the microwave, I melted it. Sometimes it pays to read the directions. When I’m at a potluck, I always feel let down when the deliciousness on my plate turns out to be cold. What a total let down. So, that’s why I like to tote my warm potluck dishes in something that will insure they stay hot. I had Barry pick up two ceramic tiles for me when he was in Lowes. He paid less than $1/each for them. When I’m making a dish to tote somewhere, when I preheat the oven to bake I just put my two tiles in there on the bottom shelf, like shown. When I took this photo, I was getting ready to make yogurt, so I used my tiles instead of my normal baking stone. I leave my tiles in there the whole time my dish is baking. This insures they get completely warmed. |
When I’m packing up my food to go, I get out my tiles and wrap them in dish towels. Be careful….they are hot and you might burn yourself, causing a scream to burst forth. Or so I hear from OTHER PEOPLE. *Cough*I put one covered tile in the bottom of my carrier and one on the top. If you don’t have a lid for your dish, you can just put both tiles in the bottom. A box for toting, instead of a carrier, works just fine too. You’ll be the hit of ALL your potlucks. |

This is also a great tip for those who don’t have a microwave (and can’t use the heating pad that comes with the dish)! 🙂
