Our Budget Envelopes – a Video

I’ve got another little video for y’all…all about budgets! WOOOOO! Don’t get so excited. I promise it’s not boring – okay, so it might be boring if you hate budgets.

Here is a look at our actual budget envelope system – I thought it would be easier via video instead of photo.

Remember, if you don’t have a budget and you need help seeing one up, you can get in touch with us at the resources page.

Oh yeah, and I mentioned to you that you could make your own envelopes. Here is a great tutorial on how to make your own cash wallet system from Sweet Kisses and Dirty Dishes.

Any questions for me??

    This may seem arbitrary, but you said you use the misc. category for things like toilet paper or light bulbs. I’ve always had a hard time separating those things out from my grocery budget because I buy them all at the same store, while I’m grocery shopping. So some weeks my grocery bill seems outrageous only because I bought toilet paper for the month or a cleaner that will last 2 months. I don’t want to ring those items up separately, but never know exactly how much they’ll be. Any suggestions…does that even make sense, lol? It does to me, but may not to anyone else 🙂

      Yes…I get ya. 🙂 I take all my envelopes with me and a notepad. So, I just tally up how much I spend in the misc category and pull that from my miscellaneous envelope. I always make sure to have plenty of 5s and 10s in there. 🙂

    What?! Chick-fil-a coupons that don’t expire?! How did you get those?
    We’re also Dave Ramsey nerds. My paper envelopes shredded & I can’t sew, so I made new ones with heavy scrapbook paper and a glue stick.

      They don’t do them starting in 2013 – now it’s a card. But all of the old coupons never expired. They had a date on them, but you could still use them when they ran out. 🙂 I still have some from two years ago that I use.

        I too love your accent 🙂 You’re cute to watch in videos. We just have envelopes we keep at home and when we need one I put it in my purse, or my Husband takes cash from it for what he needs. I too just sound Canadian eh!

          I’m always afraid if I don’t have my entire budget that I’ll need something from another envelope. 🙂 I love Canadians!!!

    I also love the rules in the back! Can’t wait for that post. We keep our envelops in the house, so I think keeping it my purse will be a lot easier…since we tend to forget them. Also, the only other person I’ve heard say “pockabook” is my 93 year old New York City-an grandma 🙂 Love it!

    Stacy, you are too cute!! I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: I love following a blogger that talks like me! lol ( ;
    I call it a “pocketbook,” too. “Purse is a weird word, haha. I noticed you say “AHN-velope,” though, so I gotta ask: do you say “PEE-can” or “pe-CAHN?” hehe

      Did you get a confirmation email? You have to confirm that you subscribed before the book will come – check your Spam filter. 🙂 Sometimes it ends up in there.

    We have been through FPU and so I’m familiar with what you showed. What I would like to have is all the rules you had listed on the board behind you. I couldn’t see them all. Can you send me that list?
