My Super Cute Budget Envelopes!

Savvy Cents budget envelopes - a cute way to carry cash!

Dave Ramsey says “Debt is dumb! Cash is king!”

Do you know what kings wear? I’ll tell you. Robes. Crowns. Bling. A little something-something.

For over 10 years, we carried the Dave Ramsey budget envelopes. It worked. It was functional. It got the job done.

It was boring.

After over 10 years of boring functionality, I saw the Savvy Cents budget wallet that The Former Mrs. Jones was carrying.

And I had budget envelope envy.

Is there such a thing? Yes, my friends. Yes, there is.

Is it cheap? No. It’s not. It’s about $33. So, I hem-hawed over it for a while. That’s what I do. Decide I want something and then hem-haw over it for ages.

So, we worked it into the budget and ta-da! My budget envelope envy was over! Not to mention, this one seems to work better for me than the other system I was using.  And using cash for the budget is the method that helps us save the most money.

I love that it’s a cute pattern and color (if Amazon doesn’t have the color or pattern that you like, try ordering directly from the Savvy Cents website).  It makes me happy every time I see it. And it’s something I see a lot – so that’s a good thing.

It keeps your budget envelopes and your “wallet” completely separate with a snap-button. You’re able to customize your own tabs and I stick my checks in the very back pocket. Then I have the wallet side where I keep all the important things I need – and it has a zipper pocket on the outside for change! I’m the Exact Change Queen with my Savvy Cents wallet.

Am I going to tell you this wallet is essential to your budgeting needs? Absolutely not! All you need are a couple paper envelopes! Easy and cheap!

However, if you’re looking to upgrade and want something snazzy…this might fit the bill for you. And Christmas IS coming up, you know. 🙂

***I am NOT a Savvy Cents affiliate. I purchased these envelopes with our own money.***

What budget envelopes do you use?

I love mine! I love that it doesn’t scream I’m carrying cash/looks like a regular wallet, that I can easily see what’s left in my envelopes, that it’s easy to pay multiple categories, and that I don’t have to keep making new ones!

Cute organizer. I agree abt a cash budget but I actually stopped following Dave Ramsey for a few reasons, one being that phrase “Cash is King”, I might be knit picky but I think it’s Jesus that’s king 😉

Just watched your periscope about this wallet. I have been looking for something like this so that I don’t have to carry the paper envelopes anymore. I went right over to Amazon, picked the blue wallet, and put it in my Save for later category. As soon as my hubby and I get paid on Thursday, I’m getting it! Can’t wait!!! So happy I saw the wallet pinned on my pinterest board.

No way… we just use YNAB. Like virtual envelopes. 😉
I check on my phone what my budget is, and away I go!

After about 7 years, I still use paper envelopes. Lol. I don’t take them with me to the store, though, just grab the money I need from whatever category and I’m off.

I made one very similar the the Savvy Cents wallet from a wallet from Wal-Mart. I made my own dividers from large index cards and post it tabs and then laminated them. My personal wallet is kept separate by a snap also. The wallet cost me about $10 and the supplies to make it were less than $3. I use this wallet for our groceries, gas, eating out etc and I use a plastic coupon holder from the Dollar Tree for our other funds we are saving.

We use cash for pretty much everything. I even keep my debit cards in a separate, smaller wallet. We carry all our cash in a coupons holder, divided into each category. I bought a super cute one also and it works great. When my daughter runs to the store for me I can can just tell her what category to grab the $ from and she’s off.
