Kitchen Tip Tuesday (12/6/11)

Almost every recipe for baking a cake tells you to bake the cake until it tests done in the center. I have this lovely little Pampered Chef do-hickey that does the job for me. It’s handy to have around. But what if you don’t have one? What if you don’t have a toothpick either? Hey, it could happen. I mean, you could be baking a cake in the hotel – or in the woods – or in the back yard. Of course there aren’t any Pampered Chef cake testers in there…..or toothpicks. What’s a girl to do? Use dry spaghetti! (There is no need to tell me that there is not dry spaghetti in a hotel, the woods, or the back yard.)

You can just insert a dry spaghetti noodle in the center of the cake, exactly like you would use a toothpick. Make sure it’s dry though….I’m pretty sure a cooked noodle wouldn’t work. Then you can wipe it off and put it back in the bag for using later….because I’m quite sure that wasting spaghetti is against the law. The Law of Stacy.

You are the smartest person in the world! I don’t usually have toothpicks around, so I just use a fork, but that leaves a bunch of holes in the cake. Thanks so much for this tip!

Well….I’ve never been called that. I think I’ll keep this comment for when Annie is a teenager. LOL

This is a good tip. So resourceful. If you’re in the woods, you can just use a small twig.
