Y’all know that I like to save a buck here and there. Some call me cheap. I call me frugal. Okay, so sometimes I call myself cheap too. But the first time I made these freezer smoothies, I was just tickled pink with myself. Making them at home is SO EASY!
If you use fruit that’s in season and homemade yogurt or yogurt you found on sale, this is a very cost effective breakfast/snack. Who needs to buy a pre-made bag of smoothie when these are so quick and easy? Not me, says I.
Plus, I know what’s in it….no weird ingredients or food colorings added. I still have no idea why the food industry feels like they need to put food coloring in everything. But before I get on a soap-box, maybe I should direct my thoughts elsewhere. You’re welcome.
Hop on over to Keeper of the Home where I’m sharing how to make your own Homemade Freezer Smoothies. It’s easy…and it’s kinda fun. It’s a project you can easily do with your children.

I have a smoothie every morning for breakfast! Thanks for sharing at Sweet & Savory Saturdays #16!

A smoothie a day keeps the doctor away..or something like that.
YES Stacy!!! I’m so with you on the whole “oh we must add fake color to *everything* or else it won’t look real (cause, you know, it isn’t)” soapbox. The other day I was amusing myself reading labels in the store (it relaxes me! lol) and a box of frozen, pre-made pie crust contained 3 types of artificial coloring…yeah. It’s like, pie crust. *sigh* Anyway it’s really nice to know someone else shares this erh.. passion. haha
I love your idea for uber fast smoothies and will utilize this asap. I love green smoothies but I can get too lazy to make them! No excuses now! 🙂
Wait, what? Pie crust has FOOD COLORING? How does that make any sense at all? I’m still flabbergasted over adding yellow food coloring to pickles…because, you know, cukes are ALREADY GREEN.
Thank you so much for sharing your great recipe with Full Plate Thursday and have a wonderful week.
Come Back Soon!

🙂 Thanks, Miz Helen.
Hi Stacy,
Thank you for promoting home-made smoothies. We do these fairly regularly – they fill up hungry boys who think they have to eat every 5 mins.; they use up leftover fruit and over-ripe fruit. I freeze my fruit, then I don’t have to use ice cubes. I add the yogurt (usually vanilla out of a large tub b/c it’s less expensive than the individual size) and I think out with skim milk. It’s amazing how much nutrition you can pack in a glass. And don’t forget the flax see for fiber 🙂
Flax in them is so good! I like wheat germ too. 🙂
We love smoothies at our house! I can’t believe what they charge for them at our local smoothie place!
I’ve never even been to one of those….they just scream “HEY! WE’RE EXPENSIVE!”
I love the Yoplait smoothies, so making my own would be so nice and convenient! I definitely want to give this a try!
Visiting from Melt in Your Mouth Monday.
Well thanks for stopping by to visit. 🙂
I completely agree about being frugal 🙂 I make smoothies from scratch too. They are so much cheaper and not full of all the additives and preservatives that many of the brands at the store have. I try to make almost everything from scratch (except cereal, which the rest of my family refuses to give up). Your recipe looks great!
We don’t do much cereal – we do granola instead. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, granola. Now I’m hungry – look what you’ve done. LOL
Fantastic idea, sounds wonderful! Thanks Stacy for visiting me and for your sweet words 🙂
🙂 Thanks for hosting! I look forward to linking up next week!
