Frugal Stocking Stuffers for Mommies

Okay, so maybe this post isn’t my brightest moment in history…because well, most of you are moms out there. And most of you aren’t filling up your own stocking – unless it’s your STOCKINGS and then you’re filling them up each time you eat a piece of cake. HA!

Instead of nixing the idea, I thought I’d write a post about what I’d like to get in my stocking – things I L-O-V-E….and then you can forward this post to your husband with the words “Hint, hint” in the subject line. Sound good?

These things are pretty easy to find – because I’m not one for gallivanting all over the countryside trying to find things to put into a sock. In fact, I’m not one for gallivanting for anything – I’m a hermit.

You can find these items at Target, Ross, Dollar Tree, or any other department store that you have (unless noted).

Stocking Stuffers for Mommies

–Mini whisk

I have this thing for my mini whisk….actually, I have this thing for my THREE mini whisks. They come in so handy when I’m making a thickener for dinner or when I’m mixing up a batch of homemade Pumpkin Pie Seasoning. You want one – and three isn’t really pushing it. And then you can line them up on the counter and gaze at them lovingly. Check out the Dollar Tree or the food section at a department store. Cost $1-2

–Lotion Bars

My hands are rough in the winter – I wash my hands a lot…it’s the whole poop and spit-up thing, don’t ya know. Every night before bed I like to coat myself up with some GOOD lotion and put on a pair of cotton gloves. It keeps me from bleeding out every time I make a fist due to stretched and cracked skin. I LOVE lotion bars – they smell sinkin’ awesome. Lexie Naturals sells three small bars for only $5!!! I like smelling pretty.

Stocking Stuffers for Mommies

–eBooks

I love, love, LOVE to read! So, anytime someone gives me a good book, they’re my new friend. eBooks are a frugal gift idea because they usually cost around $5 (depending on the type of book). I don’t know WHAT mom wouldn’t enjoy 20 Minute Meals for Christmas…seeing as how it would help her out in the kitchen. Or how about a gift of my Crock On cookbook?

How does one give an eBook as a gift? Buy the book online and download it to your computer. Create a little card to go in the stocking telling mama that she has a new book – and then show her where it is. Or forward it to her via email. This also works for giving eBooks to anyone on your list. The only thing you need to make sure of is that there is only one copy floating around there – you just paid for one. So, send the copy as a gift and then delete your file. 🙂 Thanks. Authors everywhere appreciate that.

–Chore tickets

HELLO! What mama doesn’t want her stocking filled with a “Vacuum the house token” or a “Get out of dishes free card?” This costs you absolutely NOTHING except the time to make the card and complete the chore…and mama will kiss you. DO YOU HEAR ME MEN?! Mamas will kiss you!!!!! Do you know where that leads? Hint, hint.

Stocking Stuffers for Mommies

–Instant Coffee Packs

Okay coffee snobs out there….get your nose out of the air, you might drown if it rains. I like to have these around the house. Sometimes I just want ONE cup of coffee and I don’t want to brew some for one cup. I don’t have Keurig because we’re cheap. Sometimes Mama needs a cup of Hazelnut Joe. You can usually find these at the grocery for $1-3 each – unless you get the Starbucks brand and those are pricier. Whatever floats your boat.

–A nice pen

Okay mamas. How many of you out there could use a nice pen for their purse – one that writes? Instead, you reach into your purse to write a check and pull out a…..crayon. A green crayon. Did you know that banks don’t really like that? They’re such fuddy-duds. Make it a pretty pen, guys – for extra brownie points. 😉 Sparkles are good. Cost $1-5

Stocking Stuffers for Mommies

–Chocolate

Oooooooh baby! Every mama needs chocolate. EVERY MAMA. It goes great with that cup of joe during naptime. Naptime is really the only time to eat chocolate – because it guarantees you won’t have to share with loitering children. Walgreens runs great sales on Green and Black organic chocolate. Yum! Price around $1.99.

–Gift Card to McDonald’s

Now before you get all up in the papers over this one, hear me out. I love McDonald’s coffee. Sometimes I’m out and about and would just LOVE to run through the drive-thru and pick up a cup and sip on it all the way home. Ahhhhhh, luxury – and a lot cheaper than FiveBucks (Starbucks). You can get one gift card for $5 and have a happy mama – and don’t blink an eye if she uses it for ice cream instead. *Cough*

Stocking Stuffers for Mommies

–Socks

Okay, here’s a truth – I hate spending money on socks…but I love socks. Yes, it’s true. I have this thing for cute socks. I love it when someone gives me a pair! My mom knows this well and keeps me stocked in cute socks. I just love wearing LOUD knee high socks. Does that surprise you? Easy to find, even at Dollar Tree. Cost $1-5.  Give mama a little giggle.

–Eucalyptus oil

I saved this one for last because it makes me giggle. Teeheehee! Women are weird about where they’ll use the bathroom…but sometimes, we have to GO. Buy them a bottle of eucalyptus and her problem is solved. Yeah, go read that link. 🙂 Now her hotel trips with her girlfriends are no longer dreaded! And everyone can be regular! Rejoice! And bring on the fiber. Price, around $4 from Vitacost.

So, there are my ideas. What do YOU want in your stocking, mama?

I like to get a new card game too. You can get them up here in Canada for about $5 at Walmart normally and they are lots of fun to play when the kids finally go to bed. I also like to get mind teaser kinds of puzzles. They are fun to try and figure out Christmas morning. I can normally find those at the dollar store or something like that. I wish Lexie Naturals shipped to Canada. Their products look great.

I love all of the above! A few things not mentioned but I really enjoy getting are small candles (my hubby shamelessly uses a coupon and gets the Glade for around $1.50), new dish cloths/towel ($1 at Dollar Tree), and here’s the weird one…Windex wipes, because I absolutely hate fingerprints on my car windows and I don’t want to drag out the window cleaner and paper towels every time they need cleaned. 🙂

I knew as soon as I read the title of this post in the email that I was going to forward it to hubby, and that was before your genius little hint! I love the idea for lotion bars especially–most the rest of the family isn’t quite on board with detoxing from all the high-perfume and icky stuff that you get from those lotion and potion places in the mall, and I’m hoping extra that hubby gets THAT hint!
Oh, and I love the idea of stuffing a favorite magazine in there–now, why didn’t I think of that? Your readers are as smart as you are, Stacy!

This was a great list and you are hilarious! My husband fills my stocking and always gives me fun and practical things which is just how I roll. Haha

Sometimes he’s given me restaurant gift cards so I can stop and get a sandwich or something while I’m out–he knows I’m way too cheap to dish cash out of the Eating Out envelope when I can wait and eat a bowl of leftovers at home for free. Anyways, I love gift cards–hoping for a Hobby Lobby one this year!

Don’t forget Post-It notes! Love those! And a small packet of pretty notecards can usually fit in a stocking. My dh often sticks a cooking or knitting mag in the top of mine. (I’ve put hunting and/or woodworking mags in his.)

Ok, I love this list! BUT, girl, I have to tell you, next time you can get a Keurig for cheap, get one! I swear, it will save you money in the long run! You only EVER have to brew one cup at a time, and I never buy k-cups, I only use the reuseable cup! I’ve had mine for 5 years and I am SURE I have saved money by not dumping money into undrunk (is that a word) coffee. This is coming from the cheapest person I know, me 😉 I ask for bras, underwear and socks for Christmas and birthdays too 🙂

I’m so glad to read that you love your Hamilton Beach Brewstation. I just bought one for the hubs for Christmas, but was a little leery because of some of the reviews I read. Can’t wait for Christmas day so we can bust it out and have more than 1 cup of coffee!

What??!?! You mean someone ELSE is supposed to be filling MY stocking??? Hmmmm…..I’ve been doing it wrong all these years! 😉 I figure it’s either that or Mommy ends up with the only empty stocking Christmas morning. Not fun! (And a bit suspicious! LOL) So, I just enjoy getting to pick all the things *I* really want, anyway….without the need for hint-dropping. LOL

I have a Keurig because I won one. 🙂 The cups are too pricey, though, so I have a reusable filter for it. Honestly, if I’d realized that was going to be necessary, I’d have sold it. Now that I have it, though, I LOVE it! I have K-cups on my wishlist so people can stuff my stocking with them. 🙂 McD’s coffee is also a good thing. $1 for a big un!

Here in North East Texas, a $1 will get a you a puny, little coffee……
ahhhh, yes, I love McDonald’s coffee too.

And a Keurig? Well, hubby and my anniversary is December 31st…. I think I’m going to pinch pennies (okay, maybe pinch some 10’s & 20’s) and get it for “us”. No, really! It IS for “us”! 🙂

Stacy, I love your ideas! If my printer weren’t on the blink (again…..) I’d print this out and put it on the fridge! I think I’ll just write it out and put it on the fridge!

Blessings to you dear Hermit Sister! (yep, I’m in the Hermit category as well)
