Crock Pot Honey Spiced Latte

Most of the time, I don’t want you to mess with my coffee. I want it hot. And black. Don’t put anything weirdo in it.

You won’t find me at Starbucks ordering a tall mochachino latte double frapp decaf vanilla flave. Huh? What is that mess anyway? IT’S NOT COFFEE. You’ll find me in line at McDonald’s ordering a large coffee for $1. Yea, I like McDonald’s coffee – so shoot me.

But this latte, this is different…it’s like dessert, but liquid. Liquid dessert. It flows down your throat like a dream. You’ll close your eyes and savor each sip. It’s THAT good.

You’ll tell your kids to “run along now – coffee is for adults only.” Silly rabbit – lattes are for mommies.

If you drink coffee, you’ll likely have everything you need to make this: brewed coffee, milk, stevia, honey, vanilla, maple syrup, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg. So, I imagine when you’re done reading it, you’ll head right to the kitchen to make a batch – and who can blame you…it’s Christmas after all. And what you drink standing up doesn’t count. Unless it’s liquor…then it counts. If you drink a lot of liquor standing up, you’ll still get smashed.

This is easy and cheap to make – so you won’t need Starbucks anymore. I hate to put them out of business, but really…they’re expensive. And I’m not. Make your own coffee and keep your own Fivebucks.

You’ll need very strong coffee for this recipe. I used my French Press because I can make really strong coffee in it – and also because I broke the carafe to my other coffee maker. Carafes should be made from industrial strength stainless steel. Or I need carafe insurance – one of those.

Rest in peace carafe # 23492837423.

Crock Pot Honey Spiced Latte

This stays in your crock pot on high for two hours…but the beautiful thing is, you can turn it down to warm and keep it in there for several more hours.

As you can see, it barely fit in my 2 quart crock – but I didn’t want to use my 4 quart. Why? Well, because I wanted it to look like I had a LOT of latte…I was tricking my brain. Seemed like a bigger treat to me – that’s how my mind works.

I imagine this would be fabulous to fix up and keep warm on Christmas morning while you’re having festivities with your family. You can double it and use a bigger crock if you need too…and from talking to some of you, you’ll need PLENTY of coffee, if you catch my drift. Hide the liquor. HA! Okay, come on…you know that was funny.

And for the record, I don’t drink…I just like to make jokes about it. 😉 That’s how I roll.

Crock Pot Honey Spiced Latte

  • 4 cups strongly brewed coffee
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • Liquid stevia to taste (I used 32 drops, but I like my lattes sweet)
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Whipped cream and cinnamon sticks, optional
  1. Pour brewed coffee and milk in a 2-3 quart crock pot. Stir.
  2. Add honey, syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. Whisk lightly so you don’t make a mess all over the counter. *Cough*
  3. Cover and cook on high for 2 hours.
  4. Turn to warm and keep warm for 2-3 more hours.
  5. Serve with whipped cream and cinnamon sticks if desired.

Yield: 8 cups latte

The only flaw I can see with this recipe is that it takes 2 hours. 🙂 Me & my coffee need to be united sooner rather than later. I suppose warming it on the stove would be for those of us who just can’t wait….

Well you could sip occasionally during the 2 hours to make sure it wasn’t…uhhhh, burning or something. Right? 😉

Stacy, you’ve saved my life. I’ve been wracking my brain trying to think of something to bring to my family’s Christmas party. They’ve got all the main food covered, but this is my first year on my own and I want to bring something. This will be perfect. I’m going to make a double batch. Thanks!

I, too, love my coffee black. So this encouraged me to try this recipe. Amazing. I didn’t have maple syrup and don’t use stevia, so I just added 4 tablespoons of organic cane sugar. People who prefer their lattes sweeter (I don’t) and want to use sugar should probably add another two or three tablespoons. I am sipping my latte as I write this comment 🙂

Since it’s just used to sweeten to your preference, you could just use what you would normally sweeten a drink with. And I agree with you – a lot of stevias are very bitter. We finally found that we like Sweet Leaf – and I can’t taste any aftertaste with it.

This sounds amazing! I have a weenie little glass french press (but I love my FP), and banged it pretty good on the sink the other day–then did the “freeze frame” where every muscle in the body was tensed up and scrunched up (I can put my shoulders IN my ears) waiting for that horrid crack-crackle-tinkle of broken glass… Remove shoulders from ears and counted my lucky stars, I did. On that note, the next time that the planets aren’t in alignment, THIS little beauty will be welcomed into our home (and probably put into my will!) http://www.amazon.com/Frieling-French-Ultimo-Insulated-Stainless/dp/B002M3I8IO/ref=sr_1_8?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1355506010&sr=1-8&keywords=stainless+french+press
Anyway, I can’t wait to try the latte; it sounds like a perfect pot luck item, too! Also, it seems to me that you could AHEM whisk the ingredients into the coffee in the crock pot BEFORE adding the milk? I always mixed my cocoa in half-full cup of water when I was a kid, then after it was mixed, I’d add the rest of the water. Hey, I’m all about lazy, and not cleaning up a big mess. I’ve discovered that the best way to do that is to not make a mess in the first place–to the point that hubby rolls his eyes at some of the things that I do to make cleanup easier. I think it’s because he knows that, despite my best efforts, often I make a bigger mess than I would have (but not with the 1/2 volume to whisk in method. Well, not usually, anyway).

Seriously….I have a FP very similar to the one you want. I have been
Using it for at least 4 years now and still love it. I’m done with electric
Coffee pots that don’t last or carafes that break. I’m sure the filter part
will need to bereaved one day it….4 years in this one and still going strong.
I think it is frugality at its best.

🙂 I like knowing that I can still have coffee if the power goes out…because I could heat up water on our woodstove and make coffee. Yum! Is it weird that I already thought about that? LOL

First off…I have got to stop typing on my smartphone. The self correcting features misbehave quite a bit with me.

Second…You think like I do Stacy. I love that all I have to do in a power outage is heat water on the bbq. No caffeine in a power outage and nobody wants to be around me. lol

        Have a great day.

I’m still jealous you can get a LARGE McDonald’s coffee for a DOLLAR! Someone pass me a tissue! Hubby and I went out on our date night last night and because it’s finally cold here in Texas (at night anyway) I got a small McDonald’s coffee for a DOLLAR. I don’t like my coffee black… pleh… I like my coffee to look somewhat like a medium beige. 🙂 (could that possibly be one of the reasons why I’m not losing my baby weight as fast as I’d like?)

Yeah – we even have these HUGE billboards up all around that say McDonald’s Coffee – Any Size $1. I guess everything really is bigger in Texas. 😉

Yummy! I’m a big fan of Mickey D’s coffee. When we are on a road trip–it’s the only place we will stop. Oh and Dunkin Donuts is my favorite place to stop for flavored coffee- it’s only $2 for an iced latte.

I remember you talking about making just one cup of coffee without shelling our for one of those single cup brewers: a French press. We have one and its great! No need to buy anything special for it. Just use your same coffee. 🙂

Stacy, you are too funny. This sounds perfect for my Christmas Eve brunch. By the way, Target has a 5 cup Mr. Coffee coffee maker with a stainless steel carafe. We bought one for our travel trailer and love it.
