When I put this on the table, Barry said âDid you make this from scratch?â When I said yes, he said, âitâs really good.â Iâm wondering if he was surprised that I made it from scratch or that it was good? Ha, ha! Then I told him it was a 15 minutes or less meal and he said âNo way!â Howâs that for a dinnertime play-by-play? This meal is really quick and easyâŚ..and hot. Our noses were running at the end. Thatâs how I know if something is hot enough. If my mouth just burns, but my nose doesnât run, then I didnât add enough pepper. It must not have been too hot though because Annie ate herâsâŚâŚDottie was disappointed. She was sure that Annie wouldnât want it. Poor Dottie. If you donât like your food nose-running hot, then you can just leave the pepper out. But that would be very sad indeed. Donât lead a sad life. Grab a Kleenex and letâs go! [Read more…] |
Cake Balls – The Red Velvet Version
![]() ***UPDATE: See this post about our new eating habits. (7/10/11) I had no intention of doing this post. I know that cake balls (also called Cake Truffles) are very popularâŚâŚat least I thought so. When I had a coffee party here recently, I found out that several of my friends had never made OR had cake balls. After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I knew my mission in life had been set before meâŚ..I would tell the oblivious world of cake balls! I must get rid of all crimes against humanity, starting with these. Itâs a rough job, but someone has to eat itâŚ.I mean, do it. Oh, and if you have no restraint, you might want to leave â now. Pick up your things and go. Do not read any further. Thank you. [Read more…] |
Breakfast Pizza
You know when you mix crescent rolls, sausage and eggs that magical things are going to happen. There are lots of breakfast pizza recipes out there, but I never found any that really floated my boat, so I sorta made this one myself. Yes, I am aware that there are probably tons of people who do it this way…but it makes me feel creative, so letâs go with it. Thanks for your cooperation.

![]() Is nothing sacred? I mean, really? Now we have to go and healthify our chocolate chip cookies? No, thatâs just wrong. But if your kids just wonât eat beans then maybe this is how you can really get them good. Yes, beans. I said beans. Are you still listening? When I saw this recipe I knew it would be one of my six for this weekâŚâŚcookies with beans? Yeah, right. This one calls for a can of chickpeas (garbanzo beans). Now, Iâm a BIG fan of chickpeas. I can eat them by the handful. YUMMO! Theyâre delicious on a saladâŚ..but in my cookies? Stay away from my cookies, man. Itâs been said that Iâll believe anything. Yes, when I was first married to Barry he told me that Affordable Dentures was named that because they sold them used. I believed himâŚ..it was the last time. Anyway, Barryâs Aunt Judy told me that garbanzo beans can make you crazy if you eat too many. If thatâs true, bring it on and lock me up because I love âem! Letâs make some bean cookies! Deceptively Delicious – Creamy Potato Soup
![]() I love soup on cold, rainy days. Something about them just makes me want to indulge in a big bowl. Barry chose this recipe out of the Deceptively Delicious cookbook, so when a rainy day came along I decided to try it. Barry doesnât really care for soup during the hot months, but I can eat it just about any time. Once I tried making a cold soup and that did NOT go over well. âWhat is this? Itâs cold. Soup should not be cold.â So, you will not be seeing any recipes for Cucumber Soup here at Humorous Homemaking. The âdeceptiveâ veggies in this recipe are cauliflower and butternut squash. Now, I could not taste the cauliflower, but I did taste the squash. That was okay with me because I love it! Verdict? It was very good. We all enjoyed it, even Annie. I think any kid would like it because it just tastes like a big bowl of mashed potatoes. How could that be bad? [Read more…] |
Deceptively Delicious – Oatmeal with Sweet Potato
![]() Oatmeal gets a bad rep a lot of the time. Sure, sometimes it looks like a big pile of EW. Hey, sometimes it even tastes like that. However, every once and a while you find a gem like this one. WOW! This recipe was my favorite out of all six that I tried. I groaned with each bite. I looked across the table at Barryâs and was jealous that he was eating my oatmeal. I wanted it back. I didnât mean to put it in his bowl! Poor Annie didnât even get a biteâŚâŚshe was happy with her Cream of Wheat â obliviously to my pure joy right beside her. We are breakfast eaters in the Myersâ household. If you are not, this recipe might just change your mind. The secret veggie? Sweet potato. Oh, and this recipe is so easy you just might start fixing it every dayâŚâŚwarning â your family might get used to it. [Read more…] |
Deceptively Delicious – Chocolate Cupcakes
Your kids love chocolate, right? Iâm sure there are kids out there who donât like chocolate, but we can just classify them as being aliens from Mars. This recipe from Deceptively Delicious was originally for a chocolate cake, but I changed it into cupcakesâŚâŚI like to keep people guessing. Itâs for chocolate cake â with BEETS! Yeah, you heard me. Beets. I hate beets. ICK! ACK! BLAH! I guess I need to be deceived into eating them, but Iâm just here to tell you right now that I am not going to turn down a chocolate cupcake. Your kids wonât either. However, I think Iâd leave out the fact that there are beets in them. I tried to ignore the fact while I was eating them. Verdict? Theyâre very moist and you really cannot tell the beets are there. A healthy cupcake?! YES! Thank you Lord, we know you love us! |
![]() Needed â flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, salt, baking soda, eggs, oil, beets, and buttermilk. Seems pretty simpleâŚ..except for that can of beets staring at us. I felt weird even getting them at the store, sorta like I was lying to the cashier. Iâm a hypocritical beet buyer! [Read more…] |
Deceptively Delicious Applesauce Muffins
I’m one of the lucky parents who hasn’t had major struggle with getting my kids to eat their vegetables. Don’t get me wrong, there are some vegetables they may not like, but they almost always eat whatever I put in front of them. But y’all have asked me about how you can get your kids to eat more veggies and after doing some research I came across the book Deceptively Delicious. Author Jessica Seinfeld, shares all kinds of yummy recipes like these applesauce muffins, that have a serving of vegetables “hidden” in them, usually in puree form. [Read more…]
Peanut Butter Blossoms
![]() Itâs probably not a surprise to any of you that I collect cookbooks. I think at last count I had around 500 of them. Theyâre starting to take over the houseâŚ..or is that Annieâs toys? Not sure. Anyway, this gem is among my collection. I love old cookbooks! They have the best recipes, but they do take a little deciphering. âBake in moderate oven until done.â GreatâŚâŚwhat the heck does THAT mean? My famous Peanut Butter Blossoms come from this cookbook â my family LOVES it when I make these. They are pretty stinkinâ delicious, and easy! I decided to make them fancy for Valentineâs Day and I was quite tickled with the result. [Read more…] |
Special Oatmeal
![]() “Specialâ is what someone says when they donât know what else to say. âAwwww, isnât that SPECIAL!â Hmmmmm. So, when someone calls your cat special, now you know what they really mean. I didnât know what else to call this oatmeal, so I named it Special Oatmeal. Yes, I could have called it Valentine Oatmeal, but itâs notâŚ..you could make it any day of the year. I just snazzied it up for this holiday. I like snazzing things up. I donât do plain. Letâs fall in love with oatmeal! [Read more…] |
