I’ve been around a lot of people lately who’ve been trying to justify to me their bad financial choices. They tell me the normal excuses. You’ve heard most of those and maybe even used them yourself – excuses like: “I deserve it,” “I work hard,” “I can afford the payments,” etc. I don’t want to beat you up, but as a financial counselor, those excuses to me are a lot like, “the dog ate my homework,” to the experienced school teacher. I just don’t buy it. I may believe you work hard and I may believe the payments for whatever you’re pining after won’t send you into bankruptcy, but I KNOW there is a better way to go about personal finance than the way the average American (read “broke person”) does it.

Blendtec Review
I’m a frugal living blogger. My job is to give an overall sense of being smart with your money. So, when I had the opportunity to do a review and giveaway (giveaway now expired) of the Blendtec Blender (a $500 appliance), I spent months trying to decide how to approach this topic with you…and here is what I decided:
Just because you are frugal with your money, like that which might’ve been won on sites such as 카지노사이트, doesn’t mean you cannot have nice things. Being frugal and being cheap are two different things. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – being frugal is being smart with the resources God has given you…using them wisely. It doesn’t mean you make do with the cheapest version of stuff for your entire life. Sure, that might be something that has to happen for a season…that’s when you’re being smart. But to choose cheap things when you can SAVE FOR QUALITY isn’t usually the better option.
Cracker Salad
When I was younger, I didn’t like salad. There were lots of things I didn’t like: sour cream, salmon, tilapia, avocado, cream cheese….looking back, I’m not sure what was going on with me then.
Growing up changes your tastes – at least I’m hoping that for some of my family members. *Cough* Anyway, these days I embrace salad. And if you follow me on Instagram you’ll see that I post pictures of my salads often. I’m always looking for a good one – my favorite being Cornbread Salad, but this comes a very close second. I’ll try to do better at posting salad recipes. [Read more…]
What is Biblical Submission?
Last week’s video, 5 Minutes on Submission, hit a nerve! When we came up with the idea for the video, I never considered it would bring about such debate. I discovered that I responded to many comments on the blog and Facebook with the same basic themes:
- “I don’t respect my husband, so how can I submit to him?”
- “I am not a doormat. I refuse to submit so he can walk all over me.”
- “I can submit on most things, but when he and I disagree I just can’t let him win all the time.”
- “My husband isn’t a Christian. How can I submit to him when he’s not a believer?”
Today I want to try and help the discussion along for both sides because I believe society gives us a terrible example of what it means to be a husband or a wife.
[Read more…]Crock Pot Chile Rellenos
I come from a long line of good cooks. Family get-togethers are always chocked full of delicious looking delicacies. I’m very blessed to have a lot of them written down – today I’m going to share a tweak of one from my Mama’s cousin, Lisa.
Her original recipe for Chile Rellenos called for them to be baked – and y’all know I have this thing for my crock…so I changed it to be cooked that way. I also added and subtracted a few things based on what I currently had. The original recipe also called for white flour – so I switched it up and converted it to almond flour instead. BIG WIN, ladies and gentlemen. [Read more…]
