Meet the newest member of our family, Berkey. On our journey to eating more whole foods, we decided that we’d like to get a water filter. After researching a lot and talking to several people, we decided on the Berkey Water Filter System. I saved for about 3 months to purchase this filter…..with cash. :-DI highly recommend looking into the benefits of a water filter from https://aquaclearws.com/. Their systems are known for their efficiency and ability to enhance water quality, which has been an invaluable addition to our quest for a healthier lifestyle. |

What I’m Reading – Food Rules
The book Food Rules: An Eaters Manual was recommended to me on Facebook by Syndey. By now you know I LOVE to read……and this book was delightful! Unlike a lot of the other heavy books about food and nutrition, this one was witty and at times I laughed out loud. I like this book because it wasn’t written by a nutritionist…..or a doctor…..or some know-it-all. It was written by a journalist who got his information by interviewing people. No, he didn’t only interview doctors, etc……he also interviewed grandmothers and mothers: people who REALLY know what they’re talking about. The book is comprised of 64 “rules” that Michael Pollan collected after researching what we really should be eating. Most of the rules are things you’ve already heard – from your grandmother or great-grandmother….from times when there wasn’t an issue with over-processed foods and GMO junk. [Read more…] |
Homemade English Muffins
I put off making English muffins for a long time. I figured they’d never taste like the ones from the store. And I was right. They don’t. They taste SO. MUCH. BETTER! I’ll never look back now. They really aren’t difficult and the taste is amazing. I was making sourdough English muffins, but I’ll be honest……my starter kicked the bucket. Bit the dust. Went to be with Jesus. Yes, I killed it. Of course this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I kill all living plants. Ahem. I was super busy with teaching at a local college and doing tons of workshops…..I just sorta forgot about it. Oh well. I could go ahead and make another one, but I’ll be honest – I don’t really have the time right now to feed it and keep it all bubbly. RIP starter. [Read more…] |
The STACY 80/20 Principle
Do you know what the 80/20 Principle is? Shock of all shocks, Stacy didn’t invent it. Bummer. I always think I’ve come up with something AWESOME! And then I see that someone else already did it. So, I’ve named this the STACY 80/20 Principle. The real 80/20 principle has to do with business and it means that “for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes.” Huh? Yeah, me either.Stacy’s 80/20 Principal is this: I can’t control what my family or I eat 100% of the time – but I can control it 80% of the time. The other 20% is what we eat when someone else is in charge. And if my family is eating whole foods 80% of the time, I’m happy. [Read more…] |

Butter Bell
When we switched to full fat dairy and got rid of all the margarine in the house (gross) I started to wonder how on earth I was going to spread butter all over my toast? I mean really. Cold butter just rips bread to pieces…..and I am not even going to think I would remember soon enough before I wanted toast to get it out of the fridge to soften. I came across a recipe at Tammy’s Recipe for how to make spreadable butter using oil, and I thought about trying that. But then I changed my mind after I found………. [Read more…] |
The Blackhead Experiment
Okay, so you know how you hear something on television and you think “I don’t know if I believe that.” And then you try it yourself at home to see if it really does work? That’s not just me…….right? I will try just about anything – except raw fish. I’m not even going to go there. I was watching The Doctors with my mom one day and heard this tip about getting rid of blackheads by using Elmer’s School Glue. Well. Huh. Who knew? [Read more…] |
