The second recipe I’m showcasing from the cookbook Deceptively Delicious is Turkey Chili. Please don’t run screaming from the room. I realize that a lot of people think that ground turkey is really gross – we are not among them. I use ground turkey a lot in our house…..especially when I find it marked down. My friend Kim will NOT use ground turkey because she tried it once and her family had nightmares for months. I keep telling her it was a loooooooooooooong time ago and she should try it again. Ground turkey has come a long way. It’s a great substitute for beef and pretty healthy to boot! However, if ground turkey makes you gag and fall down on the floor and have convulsions, then you can substitute ground beef. The verdict for this recipe? Not bad. Deceptively Delicious Applesauce Muffins
I’m one of the lucky parents who hasn’t had major struggle with getting my kids to eat their vegetables. Anyway, this gem is among my collection. I love old cookbooks! They have the best recipes, but they do take a little deciphering. “Bake in moderate oven until done.” Great……what the heck does THAT mean? My famous Peanut Butter Blossoms come from this cookbook – my family LOVES it when I make these. They are pretty stinkin’ delicious, and easy! I decided to make them fancy for Valentine’s Day and I was quite tickled with the result. [Read more…] |
Special Oatmeal
“Special” is what someone says when they don’t know what else to say. “Awwww, isn’t that SPECIAL!” Hmmmmm. So, when someone calls your cat special, now you know what they really mean. I didn’t know what else to call this oatmeal, so I named it Special Oatmeal. Yes, I could have called it Valentine Oatmeal, but it’s not…..you could make it any day of the year. I just snazzied it up for this holiday. I like snazzing things up. I don’t do plain. Let’s fall in love with oatmeal! [Read more…] |
